Easton sits at the west end of the upper county, off I-90 near Lake Easton and Lake Kachess. Many of the properties here are cabins and second homes on wooded lots, and the snow comes heavier than it does down in Cle Elum. That shapes almost every landscaping decision in Easton, from where the water goes in spring to which sprinkler heads go where.
What Easton properties need
- A plan for the snowmelt. More snow means more water when it melts. Dry creek beds, French drains and swales give spring runoff a planned path away from the cabin, and regrading fixes ground that slopes the wrong way.
- Plants that don’t need you there. For a place you visit on weekends, native plantings like native pines, vine maples and drought-tolerant groundcovers handle dry summers and hard winters without much care.
- Green where grass won’t grow. Under tall evergreens, lawn often struggles in the shade. Artificial turf blended with rock and plantings gives you a green spot for the dog or the kids without the fight.
- Paths that work in every season. Flagstone walkways and natural stone steps make the trip from the car to the door easier on uneven ground.

Lawn sprinkler systems in Easton
If you have lawn or new plantings at an Easton cabin, the sprinklers have to do their job while you’re away. That starts with a walk around the property: where the lawn and beds are, which areas stay shaded, and where water should never land, like the deck or the driveway. From there we lay out zones, pick rotary, fixed spray, pop-up or misting heads for each spot, and set a schedule that keeps things healthy between visits.
Heavy snow and freeze-thaw winters are hard on a system. Water left in the lines can crack heads and split fittings, frost can push heads out of level, and a winter’s worth of snow sitting on low heads and young plants takes a toll. A good design keeps heads out of the spots where snow piles deepest.
In spring, once the snow is finally off and the ground has thawed, a careful start-up runs each zone, finds leaks and broken heads, and resets the schedule. We also repair, adjust and reconfigure systems we didn’t install. There’s more on our sprinkler installation and repair page.
Scott, Brandon, and the team were fantastic to work with! From closely working with us on our irrigation system and lawn, to the open communication throughout, and quality finished product.
Planning from out of town
Many Easton owners aren’t here full time. Brandon can walk the property with you on a visit, even with snow on the ground, and plans made over the winter get the earliest start in spring. Our landscape design page explains how a project goes from that first walk-through to a finished yard.
If the cabin itself needs looking after too, our Houseworks division offers vacation home care: repairs, cleaning and keeping an eye on the place between visits.
